    Back to the Blog

Twice I have tried to retire my blog and twice I have gone back to it. Twice I have tried Tumblr and twice I’ve felt, meh. So chances are I won’t be posting much here in the future.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t blog right. I mean, I know how to establish and grow a semi-professional blog, how to develop an audience, how to add value to the conversation… hell, I even counsel my clients on how to do it. Yet my own blog is nothing more than a self-centred diary of my collections, projects and random goings-on that only my best friend and sister ever read. But you know what? I don’t care. It’s fun and I’ve learned a lot from it and I miss it when I’m not posting.

So read my blog - Everything is a spoon. Or not. Whatever.

    New jobs are exhausting!

Today was Day 2 of my new job as Account Director at Twist Image and I am absolutely exhausted. I forgot how mentally draining it is to start a new job. Between cramming all that new information into my head, trying to remember everyone’s names and always being “on”, by the end of the day I am tired to my very core. It’s a huge shock the system to go from a place where I knew everything (Friday) to one where I don’t know what the hell is going on (Monday). Don’t get me wrong, I am loving Twist Image so far. Really! But is there any way to fast forward through the first three months?

    Screw Running!

You know what? Screw Couch to 5K! I was only trying it because it seemed like a good early Spring activity, for when the weather is nice enough to go outside but there’s still slush on the ground. But it seems that Mother Nature has decided to skip that messy between season transition so I’m going to follow suit and go straight for the wheels - bike and rollerblades.

Today I went for a skate along the lakeshore after work and it was awesome (daylight savings, FTW)! Kinda disappointed with the new path in front of Ontario Place though. The city did a crap job on the paving. It’s brand new and already pitted and rough in spots. I’d say it was on par with the portion across from the Liberty Grand that was redone four years ago, so I can only imagine how bad it will be after a few more Canadian winters.

    Shorts Wearin’ Weather

Queen West was packed today! Everyone out on the street taking advantage of this early taste of Spring. It reminded me of a similar, unseasonably warm, early Spring day in Montreal. My friend, Julius, and I were heading to my place to make brunch, he in a sweater, shorts and doc martins, me in a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. We strolled down the Main, past the rapidly melting snowbanks with our faces turned up to the sun, marveling at the incredible weather, happy that Spring had finally arrived. When we got to my apartment, we threw open the windows to let in the fresh air and turned on the radio just in time to catch the weather report. Current temp, 1 degree celcius.

  • Me = Motivated

This Spring-like weather, as well as some other recent developments in my professional life, have me feeling super motivated and enthusiastic about, well… everything! So I decided to give the Couch to 5K program another try. I gave it a shot before Christmas but it all fell apart once the holidays arrived. Then I totally fell of the exercise wagon when my boyfriend’s tour was canceled and he came home for January and February. We hit the gym together once or twice before settling on the couch for some quality hibernation time. Anywho, today I got back at it with the goal of running for 30 continuous minutes before the end of April. Jumped in at Week 2, which was doable but not easy. I was thinking I’d run again tomorrow in an effort to accelerate to Week 3 but if the weather is as nice as it is today, I may be strapping on the rollerblades and skating the MGT instead.

For now, gotta get back outside to enjoy this beautiful day. Think I’ll take my Black Beauty to the bike shop for a pre-season tune up then attempt to reclaim my Foursquare Mayorship of the local record store.

    Team Martin is Unbeatable!

It’s official. After winning the Gold in men’s curling tonight, with an undefeated Olympic record, Team Martin is literally unbeatable. Assuming each team in the competition represented the absolute best their country had to offer, that means there is no team in the world capable of beating Team Martin in a single match. Incredible. Feeling very proud to be Canadian right now.

I am one of the 300,000

According to Mashable, Plants vs Zombies for iPhone hit 300,000 downloads in 9 days which may be a new record for app store launches (still to be verified). I’m not ashamed to admit that I am one of the 300,000. PvZ is the most addictive game I have played in a long time. It has my boyfriend and I fighting over my iPhone. I might have to come up with a sharing schedule before it drives a wedge in our relationship!

Just remind me not to showĀ PvZ to my 3-year-old nephew. I made the mistake of showing him Airport Mania on the weekend. He was completely enamoured with the cute graphics and sound effects but was unable to grasp the gameplay. That led to about an hour of me instructing him, “Tap the plane, now tap a runway, now tap that one, oops didn’t quite get it, tap again, tap it right in the middle, now tap this one, no don’t tap that one yet…” *facepalm*
